Book Review: Never Lie
Frieda McFadden is a highly popular author in the psychological thriller genre. I have read 4 of her books at this point and I have not jumped on the Frieda bandwagon yet. The first two of her books I thought were well written but underwhelming with the ending or predictable. The third of her book that I read, Ward D, I enjoyed. I told myself I would continue to read her books until I hit 3 ‘duds’. Many Frieda fans recommended Never Lie and I was pleasantly impressed with the ending of this book. I ended up giving this book a 4/5 stars.
A young couple are searching for their first home together. They wanted something more secluded. In the middle of a blizzard, they have a viewing set up for a beautiful mansion. Secluded is an understatement for this house, it’s described as on a poorly labeled road that is incredibly narrow, and no houses nearby for miles. Naturally, there is no signal at the house. The couple’s car gets stuck in the driveway from all the snow and they are forced to walk in the snow to the house, hoping that the light that they see is an indicator that someone is there.
The couple ends up having to spend the night in an unoccupied but fully furnished house of a dead psychologist and author. Tricia is convinced that there is someone, alive or ghost, in the house, whereas her husband Ethan thinks that she is just being paranoid.
Throughout the book, you have points of view from Tricia, Ethan, Adrienne the psychologist, as well as some transcripts from Adrienne’s patients. You will spend the book trying to figure out who was Adrienne’s killer since it is still unknown at this time. I can promise you that you will think you know the answer because it feels so obvious, but you will be surprised at the end.
